 Even sunny Cornwall gets rain now & again, but there is so much to do around here that sometimes its a good way to get some culture into the kids - (and us!).  Even I didn't realise just how much there is to do around here until I started this page. Almost all of the places listed are within half an hour of Killanoon.

ANYTIME DAYS

The Maize Maze  -  Huge Maize maze with fun quiz trail.  Large outdoor play area with - crazy golf - trampolines - assault course - tractor rides - giant sandpit - raspberry maze - rope & bale maze and lots more.  There is also a picnic area, refreshments and gift shop.  Distance: 0.5 miles                                  Driving time: 2 minutes               .maizemaze website

Paradise Park  
Wildlife sanctuary and gardens with a fabulous collection of rare and endangered parrots. They also have owls, birds of prey (watch out for feeding time for the vultures! Its an experience!), otters, penguins, a steam railway and farm animals. A great family day out and just down the road from Killanoon.

Jeepers Go- Karting  -  A brilliant place to vent your frustration at being held up by all those caravans on the way down! Loads of fun for all ages.     Distance: 2 miles

St Ives Bay Sailing  -  You will need to pre-book this, it is proving to be very popular.  Take yourselves off on a trip around the local coastlines on a 38 foot yacht, helmed by 2 very experienced local sailors who are fully qualified.  You can either sit back and enjoy the views or take an active part in sailing the boat., tying knots etc.  This is the sort of trip that makes a great holiday even more memorable.  Thoroughly recommended.                            Distance: 7 miles

Trevarno Gardens  -  Do not miss a visit to the historic Trevarno Estate where you can explore the magnificent gardens, grounds and Woodland walks which date back to 1246.  They organise Events throughout the year at Trevarno.  Enjoy the abundant wildlife, follow the progress of major restoration projects and visit the remarkable National Museum of Gardening.  Distance: 8 miles                          Driving time:  20 minutes             Trevarno website

Flambards Theme Park
Flambards Experience at Helston is one of the most popular days out in Cornwall. The Theme Park hosts amazing thrill rides , also the Flambards Victorian Village and Britain in the Blitz indoor attractions.

Lost Gardens of Heligan
"..... Our discovery of a tiny room, buried under fallen masonry in the corner of one of the walled gardens, was to unlock the secret of their demise."  A motto etched into the limestone walls in barely legible pencil still reads “Don’t come here to sleep or slumber” with the names of those who worked there signed under the date – August 1914.....                              Distance: 20 miles                        Driving time:30minutes

Tate St Ives      
The town's own world class gallery. Modern art exhibitions based around the St. Ives school with additions from the Tate collection. Amazing architecture. The gallery is right on Porthmeor Beach so you can take in some culture then sunbathe or surf.

Cornish Goldsmiths  -  Visitors can have a go at panning for 'real' gold, digging for hidden pirate treaure as well as wondering round the fabulous displays and exhibits including the famous 'Delorean' time machine and an Aston Martin DB5, not quite what you'd expect to find in a jewellery showroom - but then Cornish Goldsmiths is an attraction with many wonderful surprises to be had. St Ives Theatre  -  Home of the acclaimed Kidz R Us Youth Theatre Company. Kidz have a full programme of shows running throughout the year. The theatre is in the centre of town, tickets available from the box office.

National Maritime Museum  -  Housed in an award winning building on the Falmouth harbour-side, the National Maritime Museum Cornwall transports you into the world of small boats and Cornish maritime history.

Geevor Tin Mine  -  The largest preserved mining site in the UK. In the far west of Cornwall, on the Atlantic Coast, Cornwall's mining history comes to life.  Until 1990 Geevor was a working mine, now a museum, with many surface buildings, a guided underground tour through 18th / 19th century workings, a shop and a cafe.                                            Distance: 12 miles

Poldark Mine  -  Home of the famous series of books and TV programmes, Poldark mine is free to enter, with evening ghost tours on a Sunday & Wednesday during July and August..                                          Distance: 17 miles

Blue Reef Aquarium  -  Be amazed by the local marine species from the Cornish coast to hundreds of tropical species in the gigantic ocean display complete with underwater tunnel.                      Distance: 20 miles

Pendennis Castle  -  Constructed between 1540 and 1545, Pendennis and its sister St Mawes Castle form the Cornish end of the chain of coastal castles built by Henry VIII to counter a threat from France and Spain. Thereafter Pendennis was frequently adapted to face new enemies over 400 years, right through until World War II.                        Distance: 22 miles
